Therapy camps led by psychologists
For the past seven years, Camp Cooby has partnered with MindWare Psychology to deliver life-changing therapy experiences fostering personal growth and social connections.
Our NDIS eligible therapy camps include pre-assessments to identify personalised goals, and a clinical report of outcomes achieved after the camp.
Camp Cooby offers therapy camps for Junior (6 to 12), Senior (12 to 17), and we now offer an Adult (18+) program Empowering Horizons.

Junior Autism & Social Connections Camp
Ages 6 - 12
JUNIOR AUTISM & SOCIAL CONNECTIONS CAMP is part of the ‘Mindware Psychology Adventure Program (MAP) – Helping children find their compass of life’ and is designed for junior campers (6 – 12 years) that may present with higher needs. The camp aims to help build the self confidence, resilience and independence of it’s participants in a group setting through their participation in graduated outdoor activities. Participants will challenge themselves daily with therapy supports on hand to support them with their own growth. Our goal is to support them to overcome anxiety about social situations and develop life skills that increase their confidence in their own abilities.
– Pre and Post Assessments by Psychologists
– Pre and Post Clinical interviews with a Psychologist
– A brief Report prepared by Psychologists that can be used to inform ongoing therapy/funding options
– 2 nights & 3 days of intensive outdoor therapy including two nights camping out and preparing meals
– Nutritious meals that can meet dietary requirements
– Supported group team building activities
– Challenging adventures that will encourage participants to engage with others and make the most of social occasions and new experiences
– Graduated exposure to adventure based group activities
– A group environment of peers of a similar age to build lasting memories and ongoing new friendships
NDIS Eligible – Goals may include:
- Goal 1: I would like identify and develop strategies to cope with my emotions so that I feel less anxious in situations at home and in the community.
- Goal 2: I would like to improve and develop my communication skills so that I can increase my participation in social and community activities and create, develop and maintain new and existing relationships.
- Goal 3: I would like to challenge myself with new activities and develop positive self-esteem and confidence in my strengths, and acceptance of my difficulties and differences, to enable me to be more independent.
- Goal 4: I would like to improve my social skills to increase my social and community participation and reduce my social isolation and vulnerability.

For the ‘first time ever’, in partnership with Camp Cooby, MindWare Psychology is launching a therapy and respite program for adults 18+, and our very first intake will take place this December 2024 and January 2025!
NDIS-Funded: Accessible and Inclusive
Our Empowering Horizons program is aligned with NDIS requirements, making it an accessible option for those seeking to build life skills and increase independence. With a strong focus on therapeutic outcomes, this program is an ideal choice for NDIS participants looking to grow and thrive in a supportive, structured environment.
December Program: 3 day & 2 night – Monday 2nd to Wednesday 4th December 2024 – $2000 per participant
January Program: 3 day & 2 night – Monday 13th to Wednesday 15th January 2025 – $2000 per participant
Our adult therapy and respite program offers much more than a typical experience. It’s designed to focus on each participant’s personal growth and life skills development, delivering tangible outcomes in a supportive setting. Here’s what clients can expect:
– Tailored, evidence-based therapeutic interventions delivered by experienced psychologists, counsellors, and educators.
– A safe, structured environment that supports personal growth, learning, and social connections.
– Social skills development through group-based activities and peer interactions, fostering lasting relationships.
– Life skills workshops that help participants navigate real-world challenges, from independent living skills to social and relationship guidance.
– Engaging activities, including mindfulness sessions and adaptive physical activities, to support both mental and physical well-being.
– Respite for families and caregivers, providing participants with an enriching experience while offering caregivers a break.
Not Wilderness Therapy – A True Therapy and Respite Program
While we’re based in the beautiful natural setting of Camp Cooby, it’s important to note that our program is ‘not wilderness therapy’. We do not rely on outdoor survival or unstructured wilderness experiences. Instead, we offer a structured therapy and respite program with clear therapeutic goals, delivered by qualified professionals in a safe, well-supported environment. Our focus is on providing personalised therapeutic interventions that meet each participant’s individual needs—ensuring they gain the life skills and social connections necessary for their ongoing personal growth.

Camp Cooby welcomes every child and every need. Our unique venue caters for an array of activities of every skill level, and our programs are guided by outdoor education experts who are there to guide and nurture at every step.
